Today I am Wearing a Sweater

The last time I wore this sweater, I was asked by a colleague when my baby was due. Really? I don't take offense at this because I know that I don't look pregnant, but I still was sort of stunned. If I get any funny looks today, this sweater is going in the good-bye pile.

What do you think? Am I looking pregnant today?

Oh, baby! Let's catch up!

As mentioned in my last post, I traveled home to Connecticut for the weekend to celebrate the imminent arrival of my little nephew with a baby shower for his beautiful momma, Meg. It was a great time, and I am so thankful for all the women who were there to celebrate this joyful time with our family. Meg was truly "showered" with all kinds of goodies and love--we are blessed!

The prompts for the 30 Day Photo Challenge could not have been more appropriate to be taken during these days that I was away, so while catching you up on the shower, I will also be catching up on my photos:)
Kaitlin and I made onesies from each of the aunts and uncles...Aunt Benny loves me...that's me!

We decorated with clotheslines of baby boy clothes...

...And white roses with babies breath in blue vases
Kaitlin made cake pops...
 ...with red hair!
Lunch was simple sandwiches, salads and chips.
Meg was literally showered with gifts!
Day 9: faceless self portrait...I love my feet...is that weird?
 Dessert...
 ...including Baby Blue Punch!
 Love my sisters!
(me, Meg, Kaitlin)
Day 11: something fun...recreating a picture from Meg and James' wedding, except this time we're kissing Beansprout:)
Day 10: something i made...bookmark favors, since we asked everyone to bring a book for the baby
Baby boy colors, but flowers on top to make them a little more feminine for our female guests.

And now the countdown begins--six weeks until I become an auntie for the very first time! We can't wait for you to get here little one--you are already so very loved!

Someday, when I have a baby...

I was just meeting with a group from my Macro class. We are working on putting together an action plan for a Boston area hospital facing some issues with their obstetric/gynecology unit. Well, all that talk of obstetrics got us talking about our own feelings about labor and delivery. I started telling the girls that I want to have my babies at home (if possible) because I want to have a natural, peaceful birth without the pressure that comes with being in a hospital. You may disagree with me but I believe that, no matter how nice your doctors are, at the end of the day a hospital is a business and they want to make money. For my typically optimistic self, I know this thought process is out of character, but when it comes to my body and the way I'm going to bring my children into the world, I can't be too careful.

I guess I started really getting interested in the idea of home-birth after watching the documentary "The Business of Being Born"
There are a lot of good points made, and I believe that it is something we should really think about before just accepting the status quo. Most times I tell people I want to have a home-birth, they automatically ask about how safe that is...do they realize what a silly question that is? Humans have been having babies outside of hospitals and without doctors for millions of years longer than they've been doing it with doctors. Yes, the infant mortality rate has dropped with hospitals and doctors, but that doesn't mean that, with the help of a mid-wife, a woman experiencing a healthy pregnancy cannot deliver at home.

Of course, I'm a few years away from having a baby, but it's something to think about, and I'd love to hear your thoughts!
